Pipelining K-12 Students into the Degree Programs in Agricultural Sciences: Preparing the Workforce for the 21st Century Global Agriculture.

Recent developments in agriculture sciences including bioscience and biotechnology promise to have greater impacts on businesses of agriculture and society as a whole than any other technological advancement in the past. In spite of the promise these developments in agriculture and related areas hold for the future, there is a growing lack of information among parents, students, and teachers in schools about agriculture and its role in the American society. Today's educators increasingly recognize the importance of integrating agricultural awareness into every learning education program from secondary school or before. The need is to keep pace with industry demands for trained work force and pipelining students to degree programs that correlate with potential jobs in the public and private sectors. Tennessee State University, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Memphis Academy of Science & Engineering, Memphis Bioworks Foundation, and AgroTech Communications, is attempting to fulfill this need for trained and diversified workforce in agriculture.
